Individualised Living Options
What is an ILO?
Individualised Living Options (ILO) are NDIS-funded supports that help people with disability decide where and how they want to live. It might mean sharing a home with a supportive housemate, living with a host, or designing a setup that’s completely unique to you. It’s all about creating a safe and stable home life that fits your needs, preferences, and goals.
With ILO funding, you can explore different ways of living, stay connected to your community, and grow your independence with support that’s designed around your life. Find out if an ILO is right for you.

Who Individualised Living Options are designed for
An ILO might be the option if you want more say in how you live. It suits those who don’t need 24/7 support but still want regular help with day-to-day life.
Some people choose ILO because they’d prefer to live with someone they connect with, rather than live alone. Others want to keep growing their independence in a safe, supported environment. If this sounds like you – or someone you support – we can help you explore the possibilities.

How My Supports helps with your ILO
From the very first conversation to setting up your living arrangement, we’ve supported many people across Australia to create Individualised Living Options that feel right for them.
We’ll help you with day-to-day routines, like personal care and household tasks, while also supporting your goals around community connection and increasing independence. Whether you’re living with a host or housemate, we’ll guide you in choosing the right people and the right setup.

How to apply for an ILO
The first step is to submit the NDIS Supporting Evidence – Home and Living form. This can be done by your Support Coordinator, nominee, or with help from one of our team members. If your request is approved, the NDIA may include ILO Exploration and Design funding in your plan, which gives you time and support to figure out what kind of living arrangement works best for you.

Interested in becoming a host or housemate?
Being an ILO host or housemate isn’t just about sharing space - it’s about creating a safe, welcoming environment where someone can feel at home. You’ll be part of their everyday life, offering connection, companionship, and practical support. Every arrangement is different, and we’ll make sure the setup works well for both you and the person you’re supporting.

What’s the difference between ILO and SIL?
SIL provides regular, rostered support in a group home – often with 24/7 supervision. ILOs are generally for people who want more independence and don’t need professional 24/7 support, even if they do need someone around the house who can help out at least some of the time. ILOs are more flexible and centred around your individual preferences.
To determine the most suitable option, your NDIS planner will look at your support needs, goals, and preferences to assess eligibility.
Does ILO funding include rent?
NDIS funding for an ILO does not pay for rent, food or utilities; these costs are generally paid from a person’s disability support pension or other income. NDIS ILO funding supports your living arrangements – this might include payments for a host or housemate and funding for some respite (a break for your host or housemate) over the year.
How do I start the ILO process and how long does it take?
The first step is often submitting the Supporting Evidence – Home and Living form to the NDIA. We can help with this, or your Support Coordinator can assist.
Setting up an Individualised Living Option can take a few months. Exploration and design funding gives you time to plan the right support and people around you.
Can I be a host or housemate in an ILO?
Yes! My Supports is always looking for caring, community-minded people to share a home and support someone to live more independently.
