Making changes

Life changes - your plan can too

Sometimes things shift. Maybe your needs have changed, you’ve moved house, had a change in health, or you’re just not getting the right kind of support. The good news? The NDIS allows for updates when your situation changes – and we can help make that happen.

Whether it’s a small tweak or a bigger change, My Supports can help you understand the process, gather what’s needed, and talk through the options. We’re here to help you feel confident and supported at every step.

Assistance from My Supports

This process can feel a bit formal or confusing, but we’ve been through it many times – both personally and professionally. Our team can help you:

  • Understand if a change request is the right step
  • Gather reports and supporting documents
  • Write a clear explanation of your circumstances
  • Join you in meetings if you’d like extra support
  • Follow up with the NDIA if needed

We know the system, but more importantly, we get what it’s like to be on your side of it.

Reviewing

What to expect during the review process

When you request changes, it’s called a Change of Circumstances. This triggers a reassessment of your current plan and whether it still suits your needs.

You’ll be asked to explain what’s changed – this could be related to your health, living situation, goals, or level of support. You may also need to provide updated reports or assessments, depending on the type of change you’re requesting. The NDIA will assess the request and may set up a planning meeting to go over the details with you.

Planning your next move

What comes next?

If you’re not sure whether you need a full plan review or just a few changes, we’re happy to talk it through. In some cases, a regular plan review might be a better fit – or it might make sense to update your plan now.

Whatever the next step is, we’ll help you figure it out and guide you through it in a way that makes sense for you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Helpful answers to your questions about changing your NDIS Plan

Still need help? Contact Us

How do I request a change to my plan?

You can fill out a Change of Circumstances form or contact the NDIA directly. We can help with the paperwork and guide you through it. You can also learn more about how plan changes work on the NDIS website.

What qualifies as a change of circumstances and do I need supporting documents?

Things like changes to your health, housing, support needs, goals, or living arrangements. Even moving to a new area can be a reason.

Yes, you will require supporting documents – evidence from a doctor, therapist, or service provider helps the NDIA understand why changes are needed.

How long does it take for a change to be processed?

It can vary, but having clear documents and a well-explained request can help speed things up.

In some cases there can be long delays in seeking a change to an NDIS plan. If so, your My Supports Support Coordinator or team leader can help you follow up with the NDIS to try to get things moving.

Can I still use my plan while waiting for changes?

Yes – you can continue using your current plan while the NDIA processes your request, unless told otherwise.

What if my change request is rejected?

You can request an ‘internal review’ of the decision. We can also help you understand why it was declined and what your next options are.

Can I ask for help from My Supports even if I’m not a current participant?

We’re happy to provide some initial advice for anyone who needs support with the NDIS – even if you’re just exploring options.
