What is the NDIS, and who can access it?

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is for Australians under 65 who have a permanent and significant disability. It provides funding for supports that help you with everyday life, building skills, and being part of your community.

How do I apply for the NDIS?

You can apply by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or by filling out an NDIS Access Request Form. You’ll need to provide information about your disability and how it affects your life. We can help with the paperwork if you need a hand or read more on understanding the NDIS.

What supports can I get funding for and can I choose my own service providers?

NDIS funding covers things like personal care, therapies, help with daily tasks, transport, equipment, and support to take part in the community. Your funding is based on your individual needs and goals.

The NDIS gives you choice and control, so you can pick the provider or providers you trust and feel comfortable with.

What happens after I’m approved for the NDIS?

You’ll have a planning meeting to talk about your goals and what supports you need. Then you’ll receive your NDIS plan, which outlines your funding and how it can be used.

What if I don’t agree with my plan?

If your plan doesn’t meet your needs, you can ask for a review. This might happen if something was missed or your circumstances change. We can guide you through that process.

How often are plans reviewed and can I make changes before my plan is due for review?

Traditionally, most plans are reviewed every 12 months, but the timing can vary and increasingly the NDIS will approve longer plans (especially after your first year). Reviews are a chance to check what’s working and what needs to change.

If your situation changes, you can request a plan reassessment at any time. This is known as a change of circumstances.

What does a Support Coordinator do, and do I need one?

A Team Leader or Support Coordinator helps you make the most of your plan. They can connect you with services, manage appointments, and troubleshoot any issues. Not everyone has funding for one, but if you do, they can be a big help.
