Meet Marie: Support Worker and Fantasy Book Author

The people behind My Supports bring all sorts of talents to their work. Take support worker Marie – when she’s not supporting our clients, she’s a published fantasy author with six books to her name.

Where the stories started

Marie started telling stories back in primary school. With five siblings, she always had an audience ready to listen.

She began typing them up in her early twenties on a manual typewriter at her kitchen table, but only started publishing in 2021 after taking part in National Novel Writing Month. Since then, she’s earned a master’s in creative writing and published six books.

Two audiences, two pen names

Marie writes for two audiences under two pen names. As Ella Wyld, she writes Young Adult fantasy. As Elaara Wylder, she writes Adult romantasy.

Her ideas come from everywhere – memes, overheard conversations, movies, and the characters living in her head, making their stories known.

The books

Her first three books were written for her daughter, and follow unicorns and pegasi who can shift into human form, in an epic battle to stop a dark goddess from ruling every realm. Next year, a new YA sci-fi fantasy series is on the way, featuring a non-binary teen as the main character.

Her other three books are rom-com style Male/Male romances, featuring a bumbling knight, a sassy genie, and most recently, a British backpacker who finds trouble in Broome, WA. The next one is due out this month.

Out and about

You’ll often find Marie at Perth events like the Guildford Twilight Markets, Supanova, Romantasy in the Red Room, and PEC. She’s also building a series of workbooks and a YouTube series to help other writers plan their novels.
