My Supports recently teamed up with Good Housing to host an SDA experience day in Essendon. Guests stepped inside a newly completed Specialist Disability Accommodation home and got a real feel for what living in SDA can look like.

A real home, not a brochure

Reading about Specialist Disability Accommodation is one thing. Standing inside a finished home and picturing yourself living there is another.

That was the idea behind the day. Guests walked through a newly completed SDA home and learned how SDA works alongside SIL and Home and Living supports. Experts from across the disability sector were on hand to explain how it all fits together, including how SDA combines with assistive technology and everyday living supports.

What the day looked like

Guests were guided through the home and stopped at different areas along the way, with professionals sharing practical insights on everyday scenarios. It gave people the chance to ask the questions that matter and to see how the design, technology and supports come together room by room.

My Supports Coach Mandy Kursat and Neighbourhood Team Leader Laura Smith were among the professionals on hand to talk through questions throughout the day.

The home is part of a new SDA development in Essendon. You can read more about the SDA homes in Essendon on our Supported Living Options page.

New to SDA, SIL and Home and Living?

If you are still getting your head around the different models, our housing and living options page breaks down SDA, SIL, ILO and Home and Living in plain language.

For a closer look at how Individualised Living Options compare, you can also download our ILO Accommodation Options Guide. It covers the difference between ILO and SIL, who is eligible, and the steps to get approved.

Want to hear about the next one?

We run experience days and housing opportunities like this throughout the year. Get in touch with our team to register your interest, and we will let you know when the next one is on, or to talk through the housing and living options that might suit you.
